Energy grants and schemes: what is open, what is closing

We are a service company: we handle everything for you, with minimal service charges.

A plain-English summary of the main schemes for homes in England. Eligibility rules are set by each scheme, so the safest way to know is to let us help you check.

Closing 31 December 2026

ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation)

ECO4 requires larger energy suppliers to fund energy-efficiency improvements for lower-income and vulnerable households. It has been extended to 31 December 2026 and there is no direct replacement supplier scheme.

  • You may be eligible if you receive certain means-tested benefits, have a low household income, or are referred through your council (LA Flex).
  • Homes generally need a low EPC rating (typically D to G).
  • Measures can include insulation, heating upgrades and heating controls.
  • Funding is decided by the supplier and depends on the property and survey; some households may pay a contribution.
Open until March 2028

Warm Homes: Local Grant (England)

Part of the Government's Warm Homes Plan. Local councils run the grant for low-income households in homes rated EPC D to G.

  • Income criteria apply, set by the scheme and your council.
  • Can cover insulation, heat pumps and solar panels.
  • Only installers appointed by the council can deliver the work.
  • Not every council is taking applications at the same time; we help you check yours.
Open

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (England & Wales)

Provides £7,500 towards an air source or ground source heat pump. It is not means-tested.

  • For homeowners and landlords replacing fossil-fuel heating.
  • The installer must be MCS-certified and applies for the grant on your behalf.
  • The property usually needs a valid EPC.

Add solar on finance at the same time

Boiler Upgrade Scheme clients can also get solar panels on finance at the same time through our partner installers, helping to make the home fully electric and to cut electricity bills. JT Properties Solutions Ltd is a property services company: we pass your enquiry to our FCA-authorised partner installers, who handle the finance, survey and installation themselves.

  • Solar panel installation by our partner installers, with battery options where suitable
  • Flexible payment plans arranged directly by the installer
  • Can be fitted alongside your heat pump

Confirmed policy

Private rented homes: EPC C by 2030

The Government has confirmed that privately rented homes in England and Wales should reach EPC C or equivalent by 1 October 2030, with a cap on the cost per property. Final regulations and exemptions should be checked when published.

  • Plan improvements now to avoid the rush.
  • Some tenants may qualify for grant-funded works.
Closed 31 March 2026

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

GBIS closed to new installations on 31 March 2026. If you were told about it recently, ask us about the schemes that are still open.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a free boiler?

Some lower-income households have received boiler replacements funded through ECO4, but this depends on strict eligibility rules and a survey, and ECO4 closes on 31 December 2026. We help you check, but we cannot promise a free boiler.

I rent my home. Can I still apply?

Yes, tenants can be eligible for some schemes, but your landlord must give permission for the work. We can talk to your landlord with you.

Does the eligibility check cost anything?

No. Checking which schemes may apply is free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

What information do you need?

Your postcode, the type of home, how it is heated, and whether anyone in the household receives means-tested benefits. If you have an EPC, that helps too.

Not sure what you qualify for?

Tell us about your home and we will help you check which schemes and services may apply. No obligation.
